US President Donald Trump has praised Indian-origin Kalpana Chawla firmly as an American champion for giving up her life to the space programme and turning a big inspiration for millions of females to turn out to be astronauts.
Donald’s statements came on April 30 as he released a public statement announcing the month of May as ‘Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month’.
The US Congress pays special tribute to the month of May every year as “Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month.”
She was the first female of Indian-origin in space. She was amongst one of the seven crew associates who lost their lives in the Space Shuttle Columbia tragedy during the year 2003 when the craft broke down during its return to the Earth’s ambiance.
Trump stated, “Indian American Kalpana Chawla was the first woman of Indian descent to fly in space, and became an American hero for her devotion to the Space Shuttle programme and its various missions transporting cargo and crew to and from the International Space Station.”
Donald Trump also remembered that National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) scientist-astronaut Kalpana Chawla was honored with the Congressional Space Medal of Honour after demise by the Congress for her great accomplishments.
“The NASA bestowed the NASA Space Flight Medal and the NASA Distinguished Service Medal upon her posthumously,” Trump added.
“Miss Chawla’s courage and passion continue to serve as an inspiration for millions of American girls who dream of one day becoming astronauts,” stated Donald Trump, adding: “Through their industriousness and love of country, our nation has enjoyed the privileges and enrichment of multiple innovations and societal advancements.”
There are over 20 million Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders who live in America, comprising those residing in American Samoa, Guam, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas.
The president added that America is a state, which appreciates uphill struggle, a sincere living, and a promise to the principles of life, freedom, and the hunt for contentment.
“For these reasons, America cherishes its connections with the Indo-Pacific region, which shares an appreciation for these principles, he asserted. Americans of Asian and Pacific Islander heritage help to reinforce these relationships, which are stronger today than ever before,” the US president also said.
