It’s a proud moment for India as Navjot Kaur won the Gold medal on the 2nd march in the finals of the women’s 65kg freestyle category. A day to be remembered as Navjot Kaur became the first Indian women to win gold at Asian Wrestling Championships. While Sakshi Malik won the bronze medal in the 62kg category, India’s medal tally stood at one gold, one silver and four bronze medals on Friday 2nd March.
Navjot Kaur fought against Japanese wrestler Mia Imai. As the first move was made by Japan’s Mia but Kaur slew through the match as she recorded a convincing 9-1 win. Whilst Sakshi wins the hard playoff against Kazhakstan’s Ayaulym Kassymova with a 10-7 scoreline.
In the first bout, it was tough for Navjot as her right leg was hold by the Japanese player Mia. Navjot defence was too strong that she made it to her own’s point. As the Japanese Mia didn’t stand, the scoreline was revised to 5-0 in the Indian’s favor.
Within 50 seconds Navjot made it with the score of 1-5 on her account. Finally, the bout moment has come. Mia again caught her leg and this time Kaur saw it coming and took Mia with her breathtaking counter-attack move that got her 4 points on her scoreboard. Kaur made it with 9-1 as the clock wound down.
Navjot Kaur was in Tears when her coach held her on his Shoulders. Kaur was draped with Tri-colour on her back and anyone can see the sparkle and pride in her eyes as she won the Gold medal for India. The 28 years old Navjot Kaur was in wrestling circuit a while, as she had previously won silver at the Asian Championships in 2013 and also has a bronze from the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
